FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 13, 2019
Concord, NH - NHGOP Chairman Stephen Stepanek released the following statement regarding multiple attempts by New Hampshire Democrats to increase taxes:
“New Hampshire Democrats simply cannot help themselves. Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee voted to raise business taxes from current rates and give the joint legislative fiscal committee the ability and authority to raise business taxes without a public hearing or further legislative or gubernatorial approval. At the exact same time, their Democrat colleagues in the State Senate are also proposing increases to New Hampshire business taxes."
"Make no mistake - an increased tax on business is an increased tax on every consumer, worker, and business owner in the Granite State. Our economy is booming and the only thing Democrats want to do is obstruct that growth by taxing it to stagnation. When Republicans cut these taxes, we knew it would create a booming economy and solid growth, resulting in record low unemployment and the largest number of Granite Staters employed in the history of our state."
"Cutting business taxes has produced record economic growth and revenue surpluses for the State of New Hampshire; now is not the time to increase or create new taxes and fees."
