Concord - New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman Wayne MacDonald released the following statement regarding today's vote for Secretary of State:

“Today, on Organization Day, New Hampshire Democrats suffered their first major legislative defeat, despite having an outright majority in both chambers of the General Court. It is good news that a handful of Democrats joined our Republican members in re-electing Bill Gardner to the position of Secretary of State. The Democrat Caucus tried all it could, including organizing an unprecedented caucus vote for Secretary of State, but they simply couldn’t overcome a unified Republican Party and their own members bucking their majorities to maintain integrity in our elections and our First-in-the-Nation Primary. Maybe now Colin Van Ostern will finally realize that the people of New Hampshire don’t really want him in a leadership position.”
